ABOUT BRUNO

Bruno A. Barreiro began his public service career in 1992 when he was elected to the Florida House of Representatives, District 107 representing the City of Miami, Village of Key Biscayne and City of Miami Beach. During his tenure, he chaired the Tourism Committee and focused on issues impacting South Florida’s economy.
 
In 1998, Barreiro was elected to the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, representing District 5. He was subsequently re-elected to multiple terms, serving the communities of Little Havana, Downtown Miami, and South Beach until he resigned from the County Commission to run for Congress in March of 2018.
 
Throughout his tenure, Barreiro held several leadership roles, including Chair of the Regional Transportation Committee and Chair of the International Trade Advisory Board. On behalf of Miami Dade County, he also served on key regional bodies such as the Downtown Development Authority, the Miami River Commission, the South Florida Regional Transportation Authority (Tri-Rail), and the Southeast Florida Transportation Council.
 
In 2006, he was selected by his colleagues to serve as Chairman of the Miami-Dade Board of County Commissioners, where he presided over the County’s legislative branch and oversaw the Office of Protocol, Intergovernmental Affairs and the Office of the Commission Auditor.
 
Barreiro has been recognized by numerous local, state, and federal organizations for his leadership and service.
 
In 1999, he founded the Barreiro Foundation, a nonprofit organization dedicated to supporting underprivileged youth and the elderly.
 
A lifelong South Floridian, Barreiro is an alumnus of St. Theresa Catholic School, Christopher Columbus High School and attended the University of Miami and Florida International University. He is the President of BABJ Investment Corporation, CEO of Fatima Home Care and Partner at IUSA Water.
 
Born in Clearwater, Florida to Cuban immigrant parents, he lives with his wife, Zoraida, and they are the proud parents of Bianca and Bruno Antonio.
